Newborn Photo Session in the Brea Studio : What to Expect
I usually start all of my newborn session mid morning at 10:30 unless we discuss something slightly different. Please try to be on time and if you are going to be late or early please shoot me a text to let me know.
I have found through years of experience that there a few helpful things that can make for a great session.
I ask all of my clients to please try to keep baby awake at least 2 hours before you arrive for your session. Please have baby dressed in something easy to remove so as not to disturb baby too much if we do not need to. For example a zip up onesie or a gown with a drawstring.
If baby needs to eat or needs just a top off of milk we will feed baby until he/she is content. We want baby sleepy and relaxed.
It has been observed that a pacifier can be a valuable aid during a session. While it is commonly advised to avoid using a pacifier immediately, I do suggest that parents bring one, even if they do not plan on using it or believe their baby may not prefer it. Additionally, I recommend bringing a bottle of milk to assist in situations where the baby may require a small amount while in a specific position or prop, allowing the session to proceed without interruption from repositioning and unwrapping. The presence of the bottle also helps us determine whether the baby is feeding or simply using it as a pacifier. I understand that offering a pacifier or bottle may not have been part of your initial plan, and I fully respect your decisions. This is merely a suggestion, and our session will be successful regardless.
When exclusively breastfeeding, it is advised to avoid consuming any foods or beverages that may disrupt the baby's sleep or cause stomach discomfort. Coffee, tea, soda, sugary drinks or spicey foods are some examples.
Parent and Family photos: I suggest you wear soft neutral colors, stay away from logos, loud prints or colors that are too bright or bold. Your finger nails might be in the photos so make sure there is no chipped nail polish.
The session will be 2-3 hours long. You are welcome to bring in food or your laptop if you need to work, I provide water, coffee, snacks, wifi, and a cozy couch to stream your favorite show while you wait.
If you have an older sibling you can bring in their favorite toys and I have a basket of legos and books to help keep them entertained.
We ask that only parents and siblings attend the session as our waiting room is perfectly comfortable for a small family to relax in. One parent at a time is permitted to watch me work with the baby in the studio, we ask that toddlers stay in the waiting room for their safety as it is dimly lit in the studio and there is equipment and wires running across the floor.
We kindly request that you inform us if any member of your family is unwell so that we may arrange a new appointment once everyone is in good health. I schedule only one newborn session per day and limit the number of sessions per week to maintain a low volume of visitors in my studio. Maintaining cleanliness and good health is important to me to ensure seamless continuity of newborn sessions without the need for rescheduling.
I look forward to meeting your family and photographing these precious memories for you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns leading up to your newborn session.
